Nowadays technology is key. It’s never been as important as it is today. The fine line between advanced technology and what surrounds us every single day is blurred. We realized that not everyone has an opportunity to use technology when it's needed. Especially now, during the pandemic, when remote education and active participation in an online world has become a part of our reality.
Digital barrier among the children
According to PISA [Programme for International Student Assessment] research, even 70,000 children in Poland do not have access to a computer or tablet. Moreover, due to the current situation with COVID-19, the digital needs of household members far exceed many families’ capabilities. As a result, Digital exclusion is thus becoming an increasingly common phenomenon. In the era of e-learning and social distancing, as many as one million children in Poland experience the problem of the digital barrier.
LEOCODE on a mission
We are a part of the Polish IT community for 11 years now. Therefore, LEOCODE would like to support those in need in a way that we know to be useful. We want children and adolescents to be able to use new technologies and not be affected by digital exclusion – especially now that being a part of the IT society has become vital to human existence.
That is why we decided to help the youngest and purchase tablets for them. To enable them to step into the new world of possibilities, previously inaccessible. We have chosen three child care homes in three cities: Katowice, Gdańsk and Białystok, where LEOCODE has strong roots.
Education with fun
In conclusion, we hope that our gift will contribute to the proper education of the young generation. As a result, it will help to show the right direction in digital development. May the tablets be the proper window to growth with the help of technology. We want to show children and teenagers that learning does not have to be boring. It can be roaring exciting! 🦁🦁🦁
But, what’s important, we’re planning to do more than that. We’re planning to conduct workshops on possibilities offered by new technologies and the Internet. What’s more, we would like to teach our young protegees how to use technology in a safe and responsible way. The Internet entails many risks, against which we would like to build children’s defense mechanisms. We understand how important it is to create awareness of all of those dangers. Soon we will visit our friendly child care homes and actions back to you.
